Dying to Live is really all about "living"

I started this blog to help others die to the things that are keeping them from truly living. I talk about everything from taking every thought captive to making healthy choices when eating. I have been on this journey for over 15 years now and finally decided it's time to share it with others. Come join me and learn why we must die in order to truly LIVE!

which is more important: eating good stuff or NOT eating bad stuff?

if you only bought 5 items @ whole foods, what would they be?

is it possible to eat too much oatmeal? I think i might be : )

pick favorite [only one in each catagory]: carb, protein, veggie, fruit

which is better: eating overall healthier or eating very clean w/occasional splurges [like, hypothetically, a piece of cake] : )

Thank you for the questions!
I believe it is more important to eat the good stuff....this way if you fill up more on the good stuff you will want less of the bad. I would try to apply the rule of most of the time. If you make it a rule to eat right 90% of the time. Also, many people focus on not eating the bad but they are still not eating lots of vegetables. My goal is that you eat more green vegetables and make healthier choices. The more you eat the good stuff the less you will desire the bad.

If I only bought 5 items at Whole Foods they would be:
Ezekial Bread and their wraps
Ezekial Cereal
Organic dairy
Whole Grain Flours
Kefir and Plain non fat yogurts
Snacks for the kids: Spelt pretzels and twigs

Everything else you can get at most grocery stores.

By the way...we are getting a Trader Joe's at One Pacific Place.

Is it possible to eat too much oatmeal? Since you are running as much as you are then I would not be too concerned with 2 full cooked cups a day before 3pm. Try adding fruit, nuts and 1 tablespoon of ground flax. If you are having other carbs during the day such as brown rice, other grains, ezekial bread then just monitor this...when you are not training as hard and running as much...cut back on it.

My Favorites for snacks
Carb: Oatmeal
Protein: Grilled Salmon
Vegetable: spinach
Fruit: Blackberries

This was hard to only pick one!

Question about eating healthier all over with the occasional splurge of chocolate cake. If you are eating right most of the time I would not worry about having a piece of cake. It will not affect your weight loss goals but it might make you crave more bad things:)

I absolutely love quinoa. It is amazing and it is high in protein. Probably one of the best grains you can eat. In fact, I was going to do a post about it. I have a couple of great recipes for it. I will try to post them. This would be a great grain to start including in your meals.

I had been wondering about quinoa; there is protein in it...who knew! :-) I had figured it would be high in bad carbs...what is the carb content? By the way...I have everything for the Hummus recipe...will be trying that this weekend. I went to whole foods and had a wonderful young lady helping me find all the ingredients on the list. What a great place; sure wish I lived closer. Question...I saw yesterday that the farmer's market in the Old Market starts this Saturday. What are the right questions to ask in terms of making sure these items are organic; I assume they don't need to be regulated when at this type of event. Question...what do you think of Rhubarb? I love it, of course in the springtime when it's available, but I love it in cake, pie, etc. Yikes.

Diane, So sorry I just saw your comments. They say that you should ask for Certified Organic but I think that the Farmer's market is a great choice even if you can't get organic. Since it's fresh! Love Rhubarb...maybe you could try to sweeten with agave syrup and try whole wheat flour in your recipe. It is going to be a little different:) but let me know how it turns out.
